Lisa McMann the author of wake, said the following about Miley:

I have not met or talked with Miley at all. My agent talks to her agent. That’s as close as it gets, though I suppose I could meet her someday if she does the movie — it’s possible. She is interested in the role, but will decide once Chris Landon, the screenwriter, writes the screenplay. I don’t know when that will happen.
