Big lines wound all around Bellevue Square this week.
It all began Wednesday, when hundreds camped out in the parking garage for premium tickets to a free Miley Cyrus concert held Saturday to promote the opening of Microsoft's seventh retail store.
The hype continued when Microsoft announced a surprise concert by Seattle native Dave Matthews in the mall Thursday night. The lines again followed.
Friday saw the opening of the first portion of the final Harry Potter film and a special non-Microsoft appearance by Kim Kardashian at Nordstrom, and multiple gold medal-winning speed skater Apolo Ohno playing video games with fans at the store.
Microsoft brought in the likes of Matthews, Cyrus and Ohno to kick off the opening of the store, located only a few doors away from rival Apple. Kardashian's appearance at Nordstrom to promote new products with technologically focused Fusion Beauty shut down the store as hundreds of fans jostled for position to see and photograph the reality television star. The first 150 fans who purchased more than $75 worth of product got a chance to briefly meet Kardashian and receive an autograph.
Kardashian said before the appearance that she came to Bellevue, her first trip to the Seattle metro area, because that's what her fans demanded. An active user of social media outlets such as facebook and twitter, Kardashian said she wants to go where the people want to see her.
"A lot of the choices we make come from our fans," she said. "When we were deciding where to go next, we did receive a big response from Seattle so we decided to come here."
While Kardashian fans clogged Nordstrom, Ohno met with his fans and dueled in some of the Xbox Kinect games as hundreds of fans in line watched through the glass windows that separate the mall from the new Microsoft hub.
The Disney headliner Miley Cyrus closed out the star-studded week. The teen icon took the stage on a cold but clear day. The 4 p.m. concert snarled traffic in downtown as 4,000 kids and their families took over the Safeway parking lot.
Isabel Sosa, 7, has been a fan of Cyrus for years. She prefers the music over the TV show.
Sosa was dancing, jumping and singing an hour before the show began, displaying the enthusiasm shown by thousands of fans that spent the night in the mall's parking garage. Luckily, Sosa's grandparents got her tickets Thursday morning.
Sosa was most excited to see Cyrus' glamourous alter ego.
"I want to see Hannah Montana," she said. "I like her songs better."
